Marshall - Jack Wallin, 72, of Craine Branch Road, passed away Monday, Jan. 3, 2005.

Mr. Wallin was a lifelong resident of Madison County and a member of Union Valley Baptist Church.

Mr. Wallin was a well-known local musician and Smithsonian recording artist. He was a Navy veteran. He served his country from 1951 to 1954 during the Korean Conflict on the battleship USS Wisconsin.

Mr. Wallin was the son of the late Robert Lee and Berzilla Chandler Wallin. He was also preceded in death by sisters, Evelyn Wallin, Mona Lee Stroupe, Belva Cutshall and Jessie McElrath,and brothers, Douglas Wallin, Guy V. Wallin and Raymond Wallin.

Mr. Wallin is survived by sons, Jack Wallin Jr. and his wife, Mary Jane, of Marshall and Roy Wallin and his wife, Jane, of Minnesota; grandchildren, Charlie, Zachary T.,Brett, Jennie Lee and Joseph Odus Wallin; sister, Bertha McDevitt of Asheville;and brother, Namnan Wallin of Milton, Fla.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Chapel of Madison Funeral Home. The Rev. Charles English
will officiate. Burial will follow in Wallin Family Cemetery. Military graveside honors will be conducted by the Mars Hill VFW Post 5483.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

The family would like to offer a special thanks to the staff of Emerald Ridge Nursing Center and Mountain Area Hospice for their care given to Mr. Wallin during his
illness.
