First Lady of Maryland from 1974-1979. Married to Marvin Mandel, Governor of Maryland, who was Governor from 1969-1979 on August 13, 1974. Descended from the Blackistone family who helped found St. Mary's County, Maryland. She was the first woman elected to a public office in St. Mary's County.
