Obituary:

Jess Keezer was born on May 19, 1922, in Hamlet, Nebraska, to Louis and Mary Grace (Rousey) Keezer. He attended school in Hamlet and moved to Beaver City in 1939, where he served in the C.C.C. Camp.

On July 25, 1941, he was married to Evelyn M. Clason, his bride of 57 years. They made their home in various states---Oregon, California, Colorado, and Kansas before settling in Beaver City, Nebraska.

During his 76 years Jess was an over-the-road truck driver, farmer, businessman, city employee, factory worker, and very devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was an active member of the Grace Brethren Church for over 30 years, where he served as a trustee. He was also active in the community as a member of the Lion's Club, City Council, and volunteer of the Rural Fire Department.

Jess hobbies included fishing, hunting, gardening, throwing horseshoes, playing cards, lawn grooming and the cutting and gathering of firewood, as well as assisting neighbors and friends throughout the community.

He was taken to Heaven, surrounded by family in prayer on March 9, 1999, at the age of 76 years, 9 months and 20 days.

Jess was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Leroy; a brother, Charles, and a sister Louise Miles.

He is survived by his wife Evelyn; two sons, Ray and his wife Linda of Grand Island, Neb. and Randy and his wife Joy of Spokane, Wash.; two daughters, Connie and her husband Bob of Beaver City, Neb. and Lola and her husband Rod of Warsaw, Ind.; daughter-in-law, Jean Keezer-Clayton and her husband Jim of Holdrege, Neb.; three brothers Louis, Bill, and Jack; four sisters, Birdeana, Mary, Ellen Nadene and Winona; sister-and brother-in-laws; 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Friday, March 12, 1999, at the Grace brethren Church in Beaver City, Nebraska, with Pastor Robert Schaffer officiating and assisted by Reverend Jerry Classen of Minden, Nebraska.

A ladies trio--Melody Crawford, Margie Lambert and Cathy Schaffer sang "The Old Rugged Cross," and "Amazing Grace: and sung by the congregation, both accompanied by Rev. Classen. Honorary Bearers were grandsons, Kevin Keezer and Rudy Keezer and friends, Dalw Morse, Lester Phillips, Paul Schaffer, and Ernest Stalder. Active Bearers were grandsons, Chad Keezer, Corey Keezer, Darin Keezer, Jason Keezer, Tim Keezer, Chris Leonard, Derek Leonard and Travis Yoder.

Burial was at Mount Hope Cemetery of Beaver City, Nebraska. Wenburg Funeral Home of Beaver City, Nebraska, was in charge of arrangements.
