HANNOVER -- Martin Albers, 91, Hannover, died June 16, 2003, at the New Salem nursing home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. CDT Monday at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Hannover. Burial will be in Hannover Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Sunday from 1 to 2 p.m. MDT at Elm Crest Manor, New Salem, and from 4 to 8 p.m. CDT at the church, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue on Monday one hour before services at the church.
Martin Johann Franz Albers was born Dec. 29, 1911, in Oliver County, the son of Theodore and Helena (Schmeling) Albers. He farmed and ranched in the Hannover area all his life, operating Albers Hereford Ranch, which he took over from his father. On Nov. 23, 1944, Martin married Florence Louise Bagnell at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Hannover.
Martin was a lifelong member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Hannover in which he was quite active, serving as an elder and in many other areas of the church. In 1992, Albers Hereford Ranch was featured on the North Dakota Hereford Tour and that same year, Martin was named North Dakota Hereford Man of the Year. He lived a full and productive life and enjoyed ranching. In his later years he liked to do yard work and watch baseball and rodeo on TV.
He is survived by his two sons and daughters-in-law, Theodore and Cathy, Appleton, Minn., and Lyle and Claudia, Hannover; his four grandchildren, Paul Albers, Tacoma, Wash., Brent and his wife, Ammie Albers, Thief River Falls, Minn., Jonathan Albers, Fargo, and Chantelle Albers, Hannover; three step-grandchildren, Kim Bagnell, Tavernier, Fla., Wesley Bagnell Jr. and his wife, Beth, Fischers, Ind., and Michael Bagnell and his wife, Kristi, Kula Maui, Hawaii; his sister, Francis Coonrod, Albuquerque, N.M.; many cousins, nieces and nephews; and his friends and neighbors.
Martin was preceded in death by his father, Theodore; his mother, Helena; his wife, Florence, who died on July 18, 1995; his stepson, Wesley Bagnell Sr. and Wesley's wife, Jeri; one sister, Margaret Pederson; and one brother-in-law, Earl Coonrod. (Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan)
