Obituary

James Clayton Abbott was born on March 12th , 1878 in Adams county, Ohio. He passed away at his home in Sylvia, Kansas, on February 15th at the age of 60 years, 11 months and 3 days.
When he was 12 years old he moved with his parents to Reno county, Kansas The family settled on a homestead north west of Sylvia where he resided until eight years of age.
At the age of 21 he was converted and joined the United Brethren Church of which he remained a faithful member until his death. He never missed a service until ill-health prevented his attending.
He made his home with his parents until his father's death after which he faithfully cared for his aged mother. On December 22, 1909 he was married to Miss Minnie Smith of Sylvia.
His father and mother and brothers, Clark, Wesley and Noah, and one sister Mary, preceded him in death. He leaves his wife, two sisters, Mrs. William Webster and Mrs. John Risely both of Sheldon, Illinois, and two brothers, William Abbott and Henry Abbott both of Sylvia, besides many nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his loss.
Funeral services were held at the United Brethren Church Saturday afternoon conducted by the pastor, W. S. Baker, assisted by Rev. J. H. Stoughton and Rev. Ed. Kiemel. Burial was in the Peace Creek cemetery beside his father and mother.
