TORRINGTON - Services for Edwin Eugene Albert, 79, will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 3, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Torrington. Cremation has taken place.

He died April 27, 2003, at Hot Springs, S.D., Veterans Hospital.

Born Feb, 24, 1924, in Lusk, he was the son of Eugene Godfrey and Rebecca Maria (Raby) Albert; and was raised and educated in Lusk. He graduated from high school in Laramie.

On Jan. 28, 1944, he married Betty Ruth Kunkel in Laramie.

He entered the U.S. Army on Feb. 2, 1944; served as an officers' cook during World War II; and was honorably discharged.

Following the war, he worked at Quality Cleaners in Laramie and then owned and operated a Laramie service station. Later, he served as port of entry clerk in Laramie and Lusk before his retirement.

His main interest during retirement years was gunsmithing. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, and raising tomatoes.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years; son, Kent Albert; seven grandsons; two granddaughters; a great-granddaughter; and two brothers, Frederick of Cheyenne and Arthur of Sunnyvale, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents; oldest son, Edwin Eugene "Gene" Albert Jr.; and a sister, Ihla.
