Howard was raised and educated in Rockcastle County. He served in the U.S. Army from 1946-1949. Howard retired from Fernald as a supervisor in security. In his early years, he enjoyed boating and skiing in the beautiful Kentucky Lakes and later in life, fishing in the Boundary Waters of Minnesota. His greatest love though was his church, where he served as Deacon, treasurer and song leader.
Howard was preceded in death by his parents;
brothers, Clelan "Dick" Abney and Ralph Abney;
first wife, Shirley (Newberry) Abney and their daughter Terri Lynn;
second wife, Carolyn (Scott) Abney.
He leaves behind
his wife of over 43 years, Pauline (Franz) Abney;
son, Steven Abney;
daughter, Lisa (John) Sunderhaus;
daughter, Jenny (Marion) Wright;
granddaughter, Sarah (Michael) Wysong;
great-grandson, Garrett Wysong;
daughter, Carol (Ken) Enderle;
granddaughter, Tina Rydholm;
brothers, Joe Abney and Hubert (Kathleen) Abney;
sisters, Geneva Jones and Edna Cate;
sister-in-law, Jo Ellen Abney;
numerous loving nieces and nephews;
special friends, Ed and Betty Gentry;
a good bunch of golfing buddies.
