I married Jacob Weber when I was 21. I met Jacob when he would come to our farm to work at harvest time. His family also had come from Russia and to Okeene via New York and Galveston. Our first home was on a farm west of Ingersoll which was a thriving town with mercantile store, lumber yard, bank and livery barn. There were three nice churches – Methodist, Christian and German Baptist. We were married in the Baptist Church (I was the only daughter married in a Church) and I continued to be a member there for 47 years, transferring my membership to the Southern Baptist Church in Cherokee in 1958.
My husband and I sacrificed in many ways to pay for our farm. The snow would blow across the bed during the cold winter and our work days were 10 to 16 hours especially in summer when threshing crews came to stay before the days of the cook shack.
We had our first car when I was about 30. Finally we moved to our second home west of Ingersoll, Oklahoma. This we remodeled and it was a nice farm home for us.
Jacob Weber & Lydia Schwab were married 25 October 1913.

“I am now 78 years old and have seen many changes . . .Today with a land of plenty, our younger generation will never know what pioneer life was like . . .It was built with blood, sweat and tears. Only by the Grace of God, we came this far”.
Only comment: . . .”Lest we forget” . . .by George”.
