Lester L. Abney, 58, Kansas City, KS, died March 2, 1996, at Providence Medical Center. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, at Maple Hill Funeral Home; burial will be in Chapel Hills Memorial Gardens. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Monday, at the Maple Hill Chapel.

Mr. Abney was born in Paola, KS, and had lived in the Kansas City area since 1962. He was a truck driver for BrayLine Trucking Co., Delmar Tolly, and Dick Nesselroad. Mr.

Abney worked as a mechanic for Orville Auto Service and was later a heavy equipment operator for Deffenbaugh Industries for nine years. He was a member of the Midwest Angulars Fishing Club.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Marie Abney, of the home; two sons, John David Abney and Dale Allen Abney, both of Kansas City , KS; two daughters, Brenda Kay Spradlin, Overland Park, KS, and Donna Marie King; two brothers, Frank Abney and Bill Abney; two sisters, Beverly Jo Roberts and Delores Babbit, all of Kansas City, KS; and nine grandchildren, Amanda, Heather, Melissa, Rachel, Amber, Melanie, Megan, Johnny and Katie.
