(Date on headstone is incorrect, She died March 25, 1909)

Martha J. Hidy was the daughter of Ami Hansel, and was born on The Thorn, in Pendleton County, Va. Jan. 5, 1847. She was loved by school-mates and friends in early life and womanhood. She was married to Jacob H. Hidy March 19, 1874, and at the same time and under the same ceremony, Henry C. Hidy and Sallie Sitlington, were married, Rev. C.S.M. See performing the ceremony. It is coincident that both of these ladies died in the same room at the late Robert Sitlington's residence. She died on the anniversary of her marriage. For many years Mrs. Hidy was a terrible sufferer from bodily ills and mental depression, the latter being, at times, almost unbearable, and made her often misunderstood by her friends. She united with the church early in life, and lived in full enjoyment of her religion, her troubles and sufferings often beclouding her christian experience, but always the spark kept burning, and for months before her death she enjoyed a happy release from her mental trouble to enjoy the peace of God. We express our thanks to Dr. W.R. Siron, who so attentively waited upon her and fought off the fatal hours many years, and also to the friends who so tenderly cared for and prepared her for burial, and to to the tender, loving sympathy afforded to the bereaved parents.
