Norma Angelica Abell, 89, of Bryantown, MD passed away at home, where she was staying with her son, in Marina del Rey, CA on January 22, 2013. She was born on October 20, 1923 in Passaic, NJ to the late Irene C. (Ray) Fischesser and the late Gustave A. Fischesser.

Norma was very active in church and school at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bryantown prior to her move to Florida after her husband Colonel Abell passed away in 1971. She was also a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader. Following her husband's death, Norma attended and graduated from Charles County Community College and later received her Bachelor's Degree in communication arts from the University of Florida. While attending college, she worked for several years as a government security clerk at Patuxent Naval Base. After her stroke in 2007 she stayed with her son in California while treating at Cedar Sinai Hospital in Beverly Hills. She was a copious reader and world traveler as well as an accomplished actress. She performed with several little theatre and semi-professional groups including: the Port Tobacco Players, the Andrews Players at Andrews Air Force Base, and the Spanish Lyric Theatre in Tampa, FL. In many performances she had leading roles and even after her stroke performed in a movie production in California in which she played Marion Brando's grandmother. She loved meeting new people and staying in touch with relatives on both sides of the family. She considered herself a professional cook and worked for 10 years before her stroke as a demo lady in grocery stores. She was a member of church choirs in Sarasota, FL and Tampa, FL. She enjoyed classical music, theatre, museums, history, crossword puzzles and playing scrabble.

In addition to her parents, Norma was predeceased by her husband, Col. Benjamin C. Abell, Jr., her youngest son, Benjamin C. Abell, III, and her eldest son, Anthony C. Abell.

Norma is survived by her daughter, Marie (Mimi) T. Abell of Lanesboro, MN, her son, Jeffrey (Jamie) C. Abell of Marina del Rey, CA, and a grandchild, William T. Sermeus of Corvallis, WA.
