Bayes Rufus Cheeks, 71, of Elk Creek, died Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2012, at the Twin County Regional Hospital in Galax.
He was born Aug. 17, 1940, at Independence, to the late Granville Cheeks and Elno Testerman Cheeks.
Survivors include his wife, Geneva Byrd Cheeks of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Ronald Dean and Lisa Bolen Cheeks of Galax; four sisters and spouses, Louise Wood and Frances and Mack Absher of Independence, Helen and Garland Ball and Mary and Ronald Willard of Galax; one brother and spouse, Tony and Angie Cheeks of Independence; special uncle and friend, Billy W. Testerman of Galax.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. today, Friday, Feb. 24, 2012, at the Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home Chapel, Independence. Burial will follow in Saddle Creek Cemetery.
