In an article on page 1 of the Capital Times (Madison, WI), there is a description of the accident that Lt. Aaland had while on a routine training run in an F-80 jet fighter plane. LT. AALAND, a member of the air national guard, was attending the Milwaukee school of engineering when he was called to active duty in February, 1951. He moved to Madison with his family a few days later. In addition to his wife, Nola, and his son, he is survived by his mother, Mrs. Gertie Aaland, Madison, S. D.; six sisters, Mrs. Lilly Hanson, Madison, S. D , Mrs. Janet Hauge, Winfred, S. D., Mrs. Anna Parliament, Bryant, S. D., Mrs. Selma Grewing, Watertown, S. D., Mrs. Mae Hall, Howard, S. D., and Mrs. Carol Robins, Carthage, S. D., and three brothers, Melvin, of Howard, S. D., Gordon, of Madison, S. D., and Harry, of Jasper, Minn. The body was taken to the Frautschi funeral home.
