ABBERTON, DONALD R., 84 passed away at home on March 14, 2013. Born to Priscilla and William Abberton April 19th, 1928 in Jamaica Plains, MA. He was raised in Chicapee, MA. After completing high school he enlisted in the Marine Corp. After completing his tour of duty with the Marine Corp, he attended International College with a degree. He chose to make the Military his career and enlisted with the U.S. Army Air Force. He became paralyzed as the the result of a previous injury resulting in a tumors growth on his spine while in the service of his country. Upon returning to Massachussets. He married and started a family and worked in the Banking industry. He relocated to the state of Florida working for the Florida Employment Agency. He was instrumental in the establishment of PIN the program to assist professional workers. He retired from this position in 1990. He married the love of his life Lois in 1994. Staying active in the community, he participated in the PVA, VFW, volunteered for VA Clinic over 7000 hours and was a board member for The Altamonte Springs Association for the Disabled. He is survived by his wife Lois of Longwood, FL, his sons William (Melony) Timothy (Dorothy) sister Dorothy of Massachussets; Shirley of Nova Scotia a Brother Henry in Oklahoma; Stepson Larry (Peggie), 5 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren. Visitation will be from 7-9PM Sunday, March 17 at De Gusipe Funeral Home, March 19, 10AM at Annunciation Catholic Church. Burial will be in Bushnell, FL National Cemetery at a later date.
