HARTWELL, GA. -- Donald Ray Ackerman, 65, of 24 Woodlake Drive died Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2005, at his home. Born on Nov. 11, 1939, in Toledo, Ohio, in Lucus County, he was a graduate of Clay High School, Oregon, Ohio; Pinellas County Technical Education Center in Clearwater, Fla.; AT&T and DCE Heritage dial modems and data communication products schools. He was a jet mechanic in the U.S. Air Force, where served in Germany, Spain and Africa. He was retired from Flextronics in Palm Harbor, Fla., where he worked in the computer electronics field for 35 years. He was also a member of the Faith Lutheran Church in Hartwell. Surviving are his father, Elmer Ackerman of Hartwell; stepmother, Irene Winne Ackerman of Hartwell; daughters, Vicki Hoedi of Wewahitchka Fla., Terri Ackerman of New Port Richey, Fla., and Sherri Lambert of Largo, Fla.; five grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; brothers, Jerry Ackerman of Comer, Robert Ackerman of Hartwell and John Ackerman of Carrollton; sister, Nancy Hurley of Hartwell; three stepbrothers; and one stepsister. He was preceded in death by his mother, Sophia Przybylski Ackerman; by his first wife, Ursula Kessler Ackerman; and two sons, Kristopher Ackerman and Karl Ackerman. Mr. Ackerman's wished to be cremated and burial will be in Florida at a later date. Memorials may be made to Shriner's Children's Hospital, 12502 N. Pine Drive, Tampa, Fla. 33612-9499. The Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell is in charge of arrangements.
