Howard Drennan Rector, 92, passed awaySaturday, Feb. 26, 2011, in Fort Worth at home surrounded by his loving family. Memorial service: 1 p.m. Tuesday at University Christian Church, 2720 S. University Drive, Fort Worth. Dr. Alan Lobaugh and The Rt. Rev. Sam Hulsey will officiate. Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Thompson's Harveson & Cole, 702 8th Ave., Fort Worth. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in his memory to the Union Gospel Mission of Tarrant County, P. O. Box 2144, Fort Worth, Texas 76113 or favorite charity. Howard was born on Feb. 23, 1919, in Frederick, Okla., to Eva Bess Howard Rector and Drennan Rector. He grew up in Chickasha, Okla., later moving to Fort Worth to enter Texas Christian University where he graduated with a bachelor's in physics. He was a member of the National Guard when they were ordered to active duty July 1941. He received a direct commission to second lieutenant in the Signal Corps, studying radar from fall 1941 to fall 1942 in England. Upon returning to the states, he was shipped out to Hawaii then to Iwo Jima, Ieshima, Saipan and Okinawa. As a first lieutenant, he commanded a platoon of 50 radar operators. In 1946, back in Fort Worth he became an agent for New York Life and became a chartered life underwriter and life member of the Million Dollar Roundtable. He retired in 1996 with the distinction of being a 50-Year Agent. He loved his motorcycles, listening to jazz, working in his shop making mineral spheres, hiking, nature and especially turtles and snakes. He was preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy Hulme of Chickasha, Okla. Survivors: His beloved wife, Jean Jernigin Rector; children, Rosemary Rector and husband, Herbert Weisblatt, Robin Rector and husband, Richard Garcia, Loren Poulsen, John and Mary Poulsen; grandchildren, Frank and Elizabeth Poulsen; nephews, Bernie and Homer Hulme II; niece, Lurlene Earley; and devoted caregivers, Alma Lugo and Margarita Chacon.
