Mr. Mark Adams, 95 years old, died peacefully on Monday, January 23, 2012. Mr. Adams was born October 13, 1916, to Nathan and Etta Jane Collins Adams. He always felt that being born on Friday the thirteenth was good luck for him. He spent most of his life in the North Deep Creek Community of Yadkin County. He graduated from Boonville High School and Draughn's Business College in Winston Salem. Mr. Adams served in the National Guard from 1939-1941. He worked for Goodyear in Akron, Ohio, building Corsair planes during WWII. He and his wife returned to Winston Salem in 1946, where he went to work for Montgomery Ward and later Piedmont Airlines. He retired from Piedmont Airlines with 31 years of service in 1981. He was also an accomplished craftsman. He built replica models of the original Deep Creek Friends Meeting and the two-room schoolhouse in which he attended, and are presently on display in the current Meeting House. He grew up as a member of Deep Creek Friends Meeting. After moving to Winston Salem he became an active member of Winston Salem Friends Meeting and a charter member of Forsyth Friends Meeting. Upon retirement he and his wife moved back to Yadkin County and rejoined Deep Creek Friends Meeting where his ancestor was a charter member in 1793. Mr. Adams served as a Boy Scout Master in Winston Salem, was active in the Piedmont Retirees Association and the NC Yearly Meeting's Quaker Men Association. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a friend to family, church and community. He always stayed active at home with his bountiful garden, tinkering in his shop or inventing some new thing. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 73 years, Nellie Ruth Wooten Adams. Also preceding him were son-in-law, Fred Thomas, daughter-in-law, Jean Adams and brother-in-law, Harold Wooten.
