JOSEPH C. KEYSER

Joseph C. Keyser, brick contractor, Natchitoches, La. The parents of Mr. Keyser, J. C. and Elodiscia (Centina) Keyser, were natives respectively of Philadelphia, Penn., and Florida, and the latter was born in 1795. The father went to Florida at an early date, was there married, and died there of yellow fever in 1835. The mother still resides in Louisiana. Joseph C. Keyser (the youngest of six children, five of whom re now living, born to the
above mentioned worthy couple), first saw the light of day in Escambia County, Fla., April 2, 1835. He received a common school education, and in 1850 came to Louisiana.

Since 1858 he has had his home in Natchitoches. He began learning the brick mason's trade in New Orleans in 1852, completed it, and in 1861 he joined Company G, Third Louisiana Infantry, participating in the following
engagements: Wilson Creed, Pea Ridge, Corinth, Iuka, the siege of Vicksburg and in numerous other engagements. After the war he returned to his trade, and has assisted in putting up nearly all the best brick buildings of this city.

He was married in 1871 to Miss Josephine Raggio, a native of Natchez, Miss., and they are the parents of four children: Ellen, John, Hamlin and Paul. Mr. Keyser was formerly a Whig, but has been a Democrat since the Rebellion. He is a Mason, a K. of P. and is also a member of the A. L. of H. He is one of the reputable citizens of this parish
