OBITUARY: P.B.Hogue Dies At His Home Saturday He Had Been In Declining Health For Several Years Preston B. Hogue passed away at his home in the city Saturday afternoon at four o'clock, following a few days illness, at the age of eighty-two years. He had been in declining health for several years, but was not seriously ill until Tuesday of this past week.
Funeral services were held Monday morning from the home at eleven o'clock, conducted by Rev. W. B. Williams of Kinderhook, Illinois, assisted by Rev. T.G. Proctor, pastor of the Baptist church of this city. Interment was in Dover cemetery.
Rev. Williams in preaching his funeral service said:
"Preston Beverly Hogue, son of Milburn and Sallie Sanderson Hogue, was born July 12, 1845, in Bedford county, Virginia, and came to Missouri when three years of age. He united with the Baptist church at Dover in early manhood, under the ministry of Rev. M.M. Modisett, later moving his membership to Bowling Green.
"He was twice married, the first wife, to Nancy Wigginton, who lived only a few years, leaving one daughter, Mildred May, now Mrs. J.C. Johnson of Eolia, who is an invalid, and who was unable to attend the funeral.
"Later he married Sally Scholl by whom he is survived, with four children, Mrs. Earlie Abbott, of this city; Don Clark of Marysville, Calif.; Hazel, now Mrs. D.M. Brenesin, of Chicago, and Preston Bonner, of Red Rock, Arizona, several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
"Mr. Hogue was a farmer and stock trader in his early life, leaving the farm when elected Recorder of Pike, since which time he has made his home in this city.
"He was a man of strong convictions, generous, loyal to friend, high ideals, honest in his dealings, having formed some true friendships of which he was justly proud and grateful. His schooling consisted of four months but by no means could he be called an uneducated man. He was a life long student, keen observer, quick mind and ready wit. He was unfortunate in that he never knew a mothers loving care and training, she having died when he was very young."
