Carmon Gene "Weenie" Edmundson, 76, of Sigourney, died Fri., Sept. 19, 2003, at the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City.

He was born Oct. 3, 1926, in Thornburg, the son of William O. and Pearl Kelley Edmundson.

He married Verna Appleget on June 22, 1952.

He was raised in Thornburg and graduated from Sigourney High School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1948 to 1949 and in the Army Reserves for many years. He was a city mail carrier for Sigourney for 30 years, retiring in 1981.

He was a member of the Sigourney United Methodist Church, where he volunteered with Friendship Company; Webb Lodge No. 182 A.F. & A.M.; Order of the Eastern Star; and National Association of Retired Federal Employees.

He is survived by his wife of Sigourney; two sons, David of Eldridge and Joe of Wichita, Kan.; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Ruth Abbey, Phyllis Gustason and Billie Margaret Edmundson in infancy; and four brothers, William Kelley, Jack, Loyle "Shorty" and Chet.

Funeral services were held Sept. 23 at the Sigourney United Methodist Church with the Rev. Danny Lemons officiating. Burial was in the Pleasant Grove cemetery near Sigourney with military rites by American Legion Post No. 19 and Lacey Kerr VFW Post No. 2308.

Memorials are suggested to Sigourney United Methodist Church.

Reynolds-Powell Funeral Chapel in Sigourney was in charge of the arrangements.
