Cyrenus Abbott was born in 1819 to Abraham and Julia (Brown) Abbott in New York (possibly Genesee County). He came to Michigan with his parents and they settled in Unadilla township, Livingston County. Here he met Susan Chipman daughter of Fitch and Sarah (Spafford) Chipman, who were also natives of New York. They were married July 15, 1840 at the house of Sarah's father Fitch Chipman by the Rev. D.R. Dixon. The witnesses to this marriage were Charles Chipman (cousin of Sarah) and Betsey Abbott (sister of Cyrenus). Charles Chipman and Betsey Abbott were themselves later married to each other. Cyrenus and Susan Abbott had a family of six children, only two of which reached marriageable age. The two who lived to be married were George Abbott and Sarah (Abbott) Mapes. The names of three of the other children were Francis E., Mina and Emma E. The name of one remaining Abbott child is unknown at this time, and is likely the "Infant Abbott" buried with them in the Abbott plot. Cyrenus' wife Susan passed away on April 2, 1875 of diabetes. Cyrenus Abbott himself passed away August 15, 1889, sincerely mourned by a large circle of friends.
