Ruth Christine Abramson Peterson Bechtel
June 26, 1915 - May 18, 2013
May 18th Ruth passed away peacefully at her home. She was born on a homestead in Berger Idaho on June 26, 1915 to Charles and Sylvia Abramson. At age 4 they moved to Lakeview Oregon along with Irwin (Frosty) only 1 year old and launched the Rocking A Ranch where she grew up.
Ruth loved gardening, canning and games. She was the Pinochle Queen. In her later years she played the organ when she wasn't traveling and visiting her many friends and family.
She graduated from Lakeview HS in 1932 and after receiving The Daly Fund Scholarship she attended Oregon State University and graduated with a BA in Business in 1936. During the summers she was a camp cook for a logging crew.
After college Ruth resided in San Francisco where she worked at the Presidio staffing the Military Civilian Crew. Her father's sudden death on the ranch called her back to Lakeview to be with her mom. There, she worked as a bank teller.
Ruth loved parties, and it was at a dance in Klamath Falls Oregon where she met her future husband, Maurice O. (Pete) Peterson. They married in 1952.
Pete and Ruth had 2 children, Gary and Susan and raised them on a small farm in Boise.
Ruth worked many years as secretary in the Math Dept. at Boise Tate University. She was a leader of Women of the Church -for 54 years she was very active in all aspects of Redeemer Lutheran Church. For the past 5 years she has been a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Sunnyside WA where she resided with her daughter and son-in-law Sue and Ron Jetter. Ruth died at the age of 97.
She is survived by son Gary Peterson (Joan), Lake Oswego, OR, Clay and Andrew; daughter Sue Jetter (Ron), Sunnyside WA, Alex and Jill; Susan Durst (Jim), Boise ID, Katie and Blake; Diane Powell (Rich), Meridian ID, Andrea and Georgia; Mike Bechtel Boise, Chris and Brandi; Carol Bechtel (Alice), Grass Valley, CA, Paul and Donna.
There will be a service on Thursday May 23rd, 1 pm at Redeemer Lutheran Church on Cassia and Shoshone, Boise ID. Burial will follow at Dry Creek Cemetery, Boise ID. A memorial service will be held on Saturday May 25th at 1 pm at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Sunnyside WA
