SAM ABERNATHY, 88, passed away on July 17, 2009. He served in the Navy in World War II, worked at the Ford plant in Memphis, and then at Ryder Truck Line. After retiring, he worked for Reeves-Williams Builders. He belonged to the Masonic Order and was a deacon at Oaklawn Baptist Church. He leaves his wife of 66 years, Willodean; two sons, James Abernathy of Memphis, Larry Abernathy of Southaven, MS; one daughter, Sandra Leach of Byhalia, MS; nine grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Cancer Society. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, July 21, with services at 10 a.m., Wednesday, July 22, both at Forest Hill Funeral Home South (Published in The Commercial Appeal, Memphis, TN, on July 20, 2009) [Interment in Forest Hill Cemetery South]
