LAMESA, Sept. 6 (Special)--Funeral services were scheduled here this afternoon for Mrs. Mattie Cathrine Crawford, 46, Lamesa resident since 1930 who died unexpectedly Friday at Ventura, Calif., while visiting at the home of a daughter.

Mrs. Crawford had not been ill previously and had been at Ventura only a few days.

Services were to be held at the Higginbotham Funeral Chapel at 3:30 p.m., with the Rev. Cecil Vest officiating. Burial was to be in Lamesa Cemetery with Gus Britt, Bob Guinn, Jack Mitchell, Clyde Cox, Tom Boyd, Vern Garrett, Elton Thorpe and Aylincy Davis serving as pallbearers.

Mrs. Crawford leaves her husband, A. C. Crawford; three daughters, Mrs. Homer Mitchell of Ventura, Calif., Cherry Kay Crawford of Lamesa and Bobby Jean Crawford of Hobbs; six sons, Archie Gene of Ventura and Stacy Ray, Frank C., Jimmie Mack, Tommie Jack and Timmie Mack, all of Lamesa; three sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Koonce of Lamesa, Mrs. Minnie Bell Barnes of Odessa and Mrs. Carrie Seale of Selma, Calif.; a brother, Frank Abanatha of Plain Dealing, La., and seven grandchildren.

Mrs. Mattie Crawford, 48, of Lamesa, died in Ventura yesterday as the result of a stroke which occurred while she was at a county beach yesterday afternoon. Coroner Ted M. Mayr said today that the woman, who was visiting her daughter, Mrs. Ja Juana Mitchell, at 365 E. McFarland drive, Ventura, died at her daughters home last night.

Besides Mrs. Mitchell, Mrs. Crawford is survived by her husband, Alvin, six sons, Bob of Hobbs, N.M., Archie of Santa Paula, James, Thomas, Frank and Timothy, all of Lamesa; and two other daughters. Miss Sherry Kay Crawford and Miss Stacey Crawford, both of Lamesa. Ted M. Mayr funeral home.

In charge of arrangements, will send the remains to Lamesa for funeral services and burial.
