Charles Moroni Ward was the ninth child of twelve (eleven lived past childhood) of Richard Trulock Ward and Elizabeth SABEY Ward, both originally from England. The entire Richard Trulock Ward family is shown at the right. Charles was named for Richard Trulock Ward's brother, Moroni Ward (1851-1927).

Charles met Augusta Bertha WITT, youngest child of Peter Witt (1851-1931) and Adelheid Rose REESE Witt(1854-1929), both originally from Germany. Charles and Augusta were married 12 Feb 1918 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Charles farmed for a few years and then worked for the railroad.

Together Charles and Augusta would have five children: Mildred Loretta WARD Carrols, Lois Beatrice WARD Draper, Doris Arlene WARD Aaberg, Wilma Florence WARD Holm, Charles Wayne Ward.
