ANNA LEE ABNER, the daughter of the late Vernor and Effie Davis was born May 5, 1929 in Beattyville, KY and departed this life on Feb. 20, 2011 surrounded by family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Von Abner, son in-law Danny Williams, a brother, Ola Davis, and her sisters, Naomi, Jean and Eunice.
She leaves behind her 3 children; Vanda Gay Williams, John Abner & Nancy, and Gerald Abner & Belva; a brother, Curtis Davis and wife Sue; a sister, Clara McNay and husband Mac; a brother in-law, Roy Whitaker; grandchildren, Ed, John, Crystal & Reuben; very special friends Debbie Williams & Kenny Creech; and many nieces, nephews, family & friends.
Anna Lee began her career teaching in a one room school at Pawpaw, then later at St. Helens Elementary. At one time she was the Bookmobile Librarian for Lee County. She and her husband Von then moved to Michigan where she raised her children and moved back to Beattyville in 1964. As her children became a little older, she went back to work in the Lee Co. school system before becoming the librarian at the Lee Co. Public Library. She retired due to illness after over 20 yrs. with the library at age 69.
Anna Lee brought many new & innovative programs to the library, including story hour which was very dear to her heart. Many children in Lee County knew her as the "Story Hour Lady" and she touched & had an impact on many lives. She was very active in her community and was in many clubs and organizations & received many awards & recognitions and was very active in her church.
Services will be conducted by Rev. Glen Wilson, 1PM Thurs. at the Beattyville Christian Church with burial following in the Lutes-Abner Cemetery. Visitation is 5-9PM Wed. at the Newnam Funeral Home Chapel, Beattyville. Pallbearers are Edward Williams, Jody Williams, John Micheal Abner, Crystal Abner, Reuben Wells, Kenny Creech, Tom Lutes, Rick Johnson and Steve Whitaker. Honorary bearers are Curtis Davis, Roy Whitaker, Emmett Daugherty and Ronnie Paul Begley.
In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Lee Co. Public Library or to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, PO Box 4527, New York, NY 10163.
