During WWI he enlisted in the US Marine Corps at Detroit, MI, serving two years from 1917- 1919, most of the time on convoy duty. He was the assistant chief for the Chevrolet Motor Co in Detroit, MI at the time of his death.
Hjalmar married Mary Aabel on October 9, 1928. Heart failure was the cause of his death.
The funeral was held at the Aabel house.
He was survived by his wife, of six moths, a sister, Mrs. Ray Reeves, two brothers, Walter and Robert.
