Hazel A. Gaunt of Holyoke died Monday, August 27, 2001 in Holyoke at the age of 88. She was born on June 24, 1913 near Cozad, Nebraska to James and Martha (Rowan) Stauffer.

Hazel married DeWayne D. Gaunt from Venango, Nebraska on May 12, 1930. They settled north of Holyoke on a farm and had five children, Dormand, Valetta, Joann, Dianna and Don Leon.

Hazel was a member of the First Baptist Church where she enjoyed teaching the small children Sunday school class for quite a few years. She also served the Navy Mothers for several years. Hazel lived in Holyoke since 1961 until her death. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband DeWayne Gaunt; son Don Leon Gaunt, who died shortly after birth; four brothers and three sisters.

Survivors include son Dormand Gaunt of Holyoke; daughters, Valleta Adams and her husband Calvin of Yuma, Joann Mackey and her husband Allen of Cheyenne, Wyoming and Dianna Earhardt and her husband Richard of Sun City, California; 17 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Services were held on Friday, August 31 at First Baptist Church in Holyoke with Rev. Gary Jones officiating. Burial followed in Holyoke Memorial Park.
