DETECTIVE EDWARD C. CHAVEZ

KILLED IN THE LINE OF DUTY AS A HOUSTON POLICE OFFICER

Edward C. Chavez was born October 13, 1885. He was promoted to detective February 15, 1925 and died September 17, 1925.

Detective Chavez is survived by his wife Clara; son John H. Chavez; sisters Mrs. Josio Alvarado and Mrs. Secundina Tena; brothers Steve and Golian Chaves.

Funeral services will be Sunday, September 20, 1925 at 4:00 pm. At the Annunciation Church with Rev. Father F. Anta officiating

Burial will follow at the Washington Cemetery on Washington Avenue under the direction of the Fogle West Undertaking Company. The Houston Police Department pallbearers are E. L. Gus Butler, William Snick, Tony Marriotta, J.J. Kuykendall and I. B. Merchant.

Detective Chavez was shot and killed while at the residence of a suspect. The suspect came home and shot Detective Chavez.
Detective Chavez was survived by his wife, son, two sisters and two brothers.

Edward lived to be 39 years, 4 months and 2 days old.
