Judge Abbott was Circuit Court Judge of the 19th Circuit Court of the Commonwealth of Virginia, 1940-1973.

He was the son of Francis Leighton "Frank" Abbott and Lillie May Britts, both of Craig County, VA. He was the husband of Flora Coleman Abbott.

A graduate of the old Roanoke High School, he was graduated from University of Virginia Law School. He served 33 years on Virginia's 19th Circuit Court bench.

He was the father of two daughters and two sons, all of whom survive him.
