Opal Severson, age 87, of Valley City, ND, died Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at her residence in Valley City.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 2 PM Saturday, April 17th at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Valley City with Rev. Randall Schlecht officiating. Visitation will be from 4 PM until 7 PM Friday at the Lerud-Schuldt Funeral Home with a Prayer Service beginning at 7 PM. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services Saturday at the church. Interment will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery near Valley City.

Opal Ovidia Severson was born March 25, 1923 on a farm near Nome, ND, the daughter of Andrew and Olava (Wee) Aarseth. She grew up on the farm and attended rural school through the eighth grade. After receiving her 8th grade diploma, she began working and worked as a nanny and as a cook.

On March 25, 1944, she married George Severson at Ft. Ransom, ND. The couple made their home at Valley City where George worked for the railroad and Opal cooked. She cooked at many restaurants in Valley City over the years including Crawford's Corner, Mom's Café, Mac's Café, Hilltop, and the Char Mac. She also cooked for several years at the Sheyenne Care Center. Both she and George retired in 1983. George passed away in 1993 and Opal continued to make her home at Valley City where she was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church where she belonged to the Ladies Aid and helped with the bazaars. She loved to play bingo and volunteered to drive others to Fargo and help them shop.

Survivors include a son, Marlin (Tammi) Severson, Valley City, ND, 2 daughters, Arlys (Laurel) Jacobson, Elk River, MN and Gloria (Deland) Pahl, Farmington, NM, a son-in-law, Darrell Badger, Corcoran, MN, 3 sisters, Hazel Nelson, Ojai, Ca, Ila Johnson, Sheppard, MT, and Marie Hanneman, Billings, MT, 10 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a daughter, Geraldine Badger, and two brothers.
