Rob was born on the farm that was homesteaded by his grandfather, Isaac Kiser Stainbrook, northwest of Milltown. He completed the seventh grade and part of eighth grade at the Stainbrook school, which was on land donated for the school by Isaac Stainbrook .
Rob married Therma E. Glass, then the teacher at the Stainbrook School, on October 25, 1932 at Alexandria. They farmed on rented farms near Alexandria, Emery and on a farm in Foster Township, then bought their farm a mile west of Milltown. They lived through a great change in farming - from horse-drawn equipment and scoop shovels to tractors and grain elevators. They retired to a small acreage, south of Keiper road, at the top of the Milltown hill.
Rob was good at everything a farmer needs to know. He could repair machinery, do routine veterinary work for his livestock, make pens and bins with rough carpentry, measure a grain bin and know how many bushels are in it, tie any kind of knot that is needed, sharpen knives to a fine edge, set up an electric generator before the REA was completed and anything else that needed to be done.

Survivors include his wife, one son - Robert Duane Stainbrook; two daughters - Ilene Cromwell and Iola Bean; and eight grandchildren - Randall, Robert, Roger and Roy Cromwell; James, John and Joseph Stainbrook; and Heather Bean. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers and sisters: Dora Eliza Bintliff Snell Lynde, Ottis George Stainbrook, Charlotte Laura Bintliff and Mollie Mabel Ellliott and by one niece, Janette Elliott Lienemann.
