Mrs. Barnes, 74 years old, died Sunday at Brookwood Hospital in Birmingham, Ala.
She was born Jul. 13, 1915, in Athens, Ala., the daughter of Andrew and Mary Hurd Abernathy. She married Claude R. Barnes, who died Jun. 7, 1968.
Mrs Barnes moved to Bessemer in 1980, where she was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Janice McCray and Shirley Sansing; three brothers, Homer, Woodrow and Bill Abernathy; two sisters, Audrey Pitts and Grace Holland; and five grandchildren.
