Obituary of James Maurice Abbott:
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. L. W. Bertelson at the home of Mrs. C. A. Caswell of Vernon Center at 1:00 pm and at the Truman Church of Christ at 2:30 pm Monday, for James Maurice Abbott, who died at the home of his daughter on Saturday, February 14. Burial was made in the Antrim Public cemetery. Miss Grace Cheney and Mrs. Vida Adams sang several selections. James Maurice Abbott, son of George and Abigail Abbott, was born in Fulton City, Illinois, June 15, 1853. He lived to the glorious age of 88 years, 8 months and 30 days, passing away on February 14, at 3 am in the home of Mrs. S. C. Caswell.
At the age of 14 he moved with his parents to Minnesota, settling in Blue Earth County. In the year 1874 he was united in marriage to Miss Jennie Davis. This union God blessed with nine children: Nelson Abbott of Brainerd; Mrs. S. A. Caswell of Vernon Center; Mrs. Hayse Caswell of Madelia; Mrs. D. N. Abbott of Parkdale, Oregon; Raymond Abbott of Sioux City, Iowa; Daniel Abbott of Bemidji; Maurice Abbott of Dardale, Oregon; Buel Abbott of Lewisville; and one daughter, Mirilla, who died in infancy. In 1894, he joined the Church of Christ and remained faithful to his Lord until death. In 1900, the family moved to Lewisville, remaining there until two years ago. During the past two years they have lived in the home of their daughter, Mrs. S. A. Caswell. Those surviving to grieve his death are: his eight children; two sisters, Mrs. Cynthia Crandall of Park Rapids, and Mrs. Angeline Zimmerman if Aleix, Alberta, Canada; 22 grandchildren, 50 great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren and a host of friends.
