Lorene Agnes Sieck was born on December 11, 1921 at Malvern, Iowa. She was the daughter of Burl and Lydia (Smith) Abel and was one of six children in the family. She attended school in Malvern. After school, Lorene worked as a housekeeper.
Lorene married Willie Sieck on January 21, 1942 in Ava, Missouri. They were the parents of four children: Robert, Roger, Julia and Stuart. After their marriage they made their home on various farms near Wiota, Brayton, Harlan and Marne. They moved to Walnut in 1986. Lorene worked as a homemaker while raising her children. She also worked for many businesses in Atlantic, Elk Horn and Walnut. Willie died on October 21, 1993. Lorene lived in her home until July of 2007 when she moved to Peace Haven Retirement Home in Walnut.
Lorene loved being with family and friends, was a great cook, and did a lot of gardening and canning. She liked playing cards, was a member of the birthday club and enjoyed being a part of the social life in her community. She was a very caring person, always concerned with others. Lorene loved to go to dances and was always ready to travel to see her children and grandchildren.
Lorene died on Tuesday, April 7, 2009 at Peace Haven Retirement Home in Walnut, Iowa. She had attained the age of eighty-seven years, three months and twenty-seven days. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Willie, two brothers: Paul and Donald Abel and one sister, Maxine Baldwin.
Lorene is survived by her children: Robert L. Sieck and Roger W. Sieck, both of Walnut, Iowa, Julia Forgey of Bolivar, Missouri and Stuart O. Sieck and Michele Lane of Atlantic, Iowa; ten grandchildren: Pamela and her husband Jeff Nielsen, Jill and her husband John Woltmann, Carrie and her husband Jared Schmitt, Micheal Sieck and his wife Brenda, Charles Sieck and his wife Elizabeth Sieck, Kimberly and her husband Fernando Montoya, Esther and her husband Ken Myers, Brad Lawrence, Sarah and her husband Greg Hetrick, and Stephanie Sieck and her fiancé Jake Sullivan; twenty-one great grand-children; her sister, Lucille Christensen of Atlantic, Iowa; her brother, Howard Abel of Wheatland, Missouri; sister-in-law, Inez Abel of Walnut, Iowa; other relatives and many friends.
A funeral service was held on Saturday, April 11, 2009 with Ted Sieck officiating the 10:00 AM service at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Avoca, Iowa. Serving as casket bearers were Jared Schmitt, Fernando Montoya, Greg Hetrick, Jeff Nielsen, John Woltmann, and Jerry Sieck. Interment was held in the Layton Township Cemetery in Walnut, Iowa.
