Paula Aas was born April 20, 1948 in La Grande, Oregon, the daughter of Leila LaVerne Berry and Oscar Theodore Aas. She married Ronald Haak, and they enjoyed 15 years together until Paula's death in 2008.

Survivors besides her husband included two daughters, Debra Brastoff and Jamie Dermody; two grandsons, Thomas and Ivan Brastoff; and two sisters, Tanja Jasper and Dana McNamara.
