Thomas Abbate

Thomas J. Abbate, 77, of 950 Cross Ave., formerly of Lexington, died Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2001, at King's Daughters' Hospital.
He was born March 8, 1924, in Brooklyn, N.Y., the son of Joseph and Jennie Conte Abbate. He retired in 1980 as an accountant with the Lutheran Medical Center in Brooklyn. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II was and a member of Christ Church in Brooklyn.
Surviving are one daughter,one stepson,one grandson; two step-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dorothy LaVerne Thurman Abbate, May 30, 2001; three brothers, Joseph, Louis and George Abbate; and one sister, Marie Ann Abbate.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Vail-Holt Funeral Home Madison Chapel, with burial in Liberty Cemetery.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. Friday until the time of the service at the funeral home.
The American Legion, Jefferson Post 9, will conduct military graveside services
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Liberty Cemetery Association.
