Arnold was a combat veteran of the Korean War. He was a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army and served from 1948 until 1952. He earned several medals for his service including the Korean Service Medal with two bronze stars and a United Nations Service Medal.
Arnold worked as an electronics engineer, beginning with Collins Radio where he was involved in support for U.S. Air Force jet and ballistic missile programs. Later he was employed by the Bendix Corporation, and retired from Midwest Research Institute in Kansas City, Missouri at the age of 66.
Arnold and Peggy spent his retirement at a lake home in Hermitage, Missouri.
He is survived by his wife Peggy Franta of Springfield, Missouri ; three daughters, Karla Mary Wilson of Bolivar, Missouri, Margo Renae Abdalla of Buffalo, Missouri, and Celeste Marie Barry of Norris, Tennessee; ten grandchildren; one great grandson; a sister, Violet Richmond of Marion, Kansas; and a sister-in-law, Irmagene Goodman of Marion, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Amelia Franta and a brother, Gerald Franta.
Services were held on August 22, 2013 at the Holy Family-St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church in Pilsen, Kansas, followed by burial with military honors in the church cemetery.
