Lydia Regina(Schoppert) Auch was the daughter of Peter and Katharina (Huber) Auch. She was born on January 2nd, 1895, in Hutchinson County, S.Dak., at the family farm home 12 miles north of Menno.
She was presented for Holy Baptism at the Congregational Church near Clayton, S. Dak., on March 10, 1895. The Rev. A.F. Schmolle administered the sacrament. She received her instruction in the matters of the Christian faith preparatory for confirmation from Pastor John J. Sattler, and was confirmed at the Tyndall, S. Dak., Congregational Church on February 28th, 1909.
Lydia Schoppert and John Auch were married on April 25, 1915. They resided on a farm eight miles north of Menno 34 years. In 1949 they retired from farming and moved to Menno. John Auch passed away on February 17th, 1955
John and Lydia Auch were the parents of five sons and one daughter, all of whom survive their mother.
Lydia Auch has been a member of the Reformed Church since her marriage, at Johannesthal until their retirement and since then of Salem Reformed Church. She was greatly interested in her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was an active housekeeper, living in her home with two of her sons, Arthur and Victor, despite her advanced age.
In the last five months signs of declining health were apparent. She entered Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton on April 12. There-after, she spent two weeks at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Oswald. Four weeks ago she was required to enter the Scotland Hospital, where she passed away in the early morning of Tuesday, June 8. She attained an age of 81 years, 4 months, six days.
Lydia Auch is survived by her five sons and one daughter: Arthur, Calvin, Walter, and Victor of Menno, and Edmund Raul of Omaha, Nebr., and Lora, Mrs. Elmer Oswald of Olivet. She has seven grandchildren, and five great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, seven brothers, four sisters, one daughter-in-law. She was the last surviving member of her own family.
Funeral services for Lydia Auch were held Friday, June 11th at 10:00 a.m. at Salem Reformed Church in Menno with Rev. W.E. Odenbach, officiating. Music was by Mrs. Edwin Oswald and Mrs. Richard Sayler, Duet; Kenneth Auch, Soloist; and Mrs. Melferd Maas, Organist.
Pallbearers were Larry Auch, John Auch, David Auch, Ben Kost, Donal Schoppert, Richard Auch.
Interment was at the Menno Cemetery with Aisenbrey Funeral Home in charge.
