She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Dr. Jack Parmer Evans; children, Susan Leigh Evans Afromsky of Ridgefield, New Jersey, and Jack Parmer Evans, Jr. of Goose Creek, South Carolina; son-in-law, Ira H. Afromsky, daughter-in-law, Allison Rhyne; granddaughters, Ashleigh, Jordan and Sarah Afromsky; sister, Martha Gene Wiggginton of Tallahassee, Florida; sister-in-law, Charlotte Evans Copley of Williamsburg, Virginia and brother-in-law, Dr. Hugh Raymond Evans, Jr.
Mary Lou attended St. Mary's College, Notre Dame, Indiana. She then attended Vanderbilt University, Nashville, Tennessee where she graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1955. She was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. She received her masters degree in Bacteriology from Vanderbilt University in 1957.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Treasurer of the Working Women's Home Association and active in other community organizations.
Private graveside services for family will be held on Friday, January 14, 2011 at Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held at First United Methodist Church, Montgomery, Alabama from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. A memorial service will be held immediately following the visitation in the sanctuary.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Medical Outreach Ministries, Montgomery, Alabama or the First United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, Montgomery, Alabama.
