Last Rites Tuesday For Dave Adams, Long-Time Resident

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the First Baptist Church for David L. Adams, pioneer resident of Jackson Hole.

David L. Adams passed away on Saturday, September 7, 1963, in St. John's hospital. He was 85 years of age.

He was born May 29, 1878, at Myrtle Point, Oregon. In 1902 he married Katherine West. To this union six children were born. Four daughters surviving are Mrs. John (Oma) Stone, Missoula, Montana; Mrs. Ross (Eva) Millward, San Pablo, California; Mrs. James (Eunice) Braman, Moran; and Mrs. Emile (Beryl) Wolff, Moran. Also four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren survive him. His wife died in January 1931. A son and daughter also preceded him in death.

He brought his family to Jackson in 1909 where he was employed by "Pap" DeLoney, hauling freight from Ashton and Sugar City. He homesteaded on the Buffalo River but there was no school in the north end of the valley at that time, so he moved with his family to Montana where he engaged in the logging business.

In 1924 he and his family returned to Jackson Hole and here he spent the remaining years of his life. He was employed by the Forest Service and Grand Teton National Park as a fire guard until 1951, when he had to stop working because of his age.

Since then he had made his home in his little cabin on the Wolff ranch.

Pallbearers were Don Eshelman, Noble Gregory, Ike Breen, Bob Myers, Howard Ferrin, and Lester Jacobson.

His daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ross Millward, were here from San Pablo, Calif., and another daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. John Stone from Missoula Mont., were also here for the services. Coming from Idaho Falls were Mr. and Mrs. Rex Decker.
