Marie Abbott died Wednesday. She was born Sept. 23, 1917, to Charles and Dolly Higgerson and raised in Percy, Ill. She married Edgar L. Colbert Oct. 21, 1938. Marie excelled as a homemaker and full-time mother to their five children. After Edgar’s death in 1967, Marie went to work at the hot lunch program for the Dillon school system.
While working at the State Dining Room, she met the guy with whom she shared her golden years. Marie and Stan Abbott married Oct. 10, 1981. They retired that year and began splitting their time between Dillon and Lake Havasu City, Ariz.
She was preceded in death by husband, Edgar; daughter-in-law, Lillian; and an infant granddaughter.
Marie is survived by husband, Stan, Dillon; sons, Phil (Jann) Colbert, Helena, Dave Colbert, Anaconda, Don Colbert, Dillon, and Mike (Judy) Colbert, Townsend; daughter, Leota (John) Fred, Missoula; stepdaughters and stepsons, Michelle (Joe) Kennedy, Scott Abbott and Steve (Lori) Abbott, all of Idaho Falls; sister, Inez Tompkins, Portage, Ind.; 39 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Brundage Chapel with the Rev. James Carlson officiating. Memorials: to Barrett Hospital Hospice, 90 Highway 91 South, Dillon, MT 59725 or the American Cancer Society.
