Elray D. Abels of Rushmore, Minn., died on Friday, September 26, 2008 in Sioux Falls, S. Dak.


Services were held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, September 30, at the First Presbyterian Church in Wilmont, Minn., with Rev. Ken Honius officiating.


Interment was at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday at Holman Township Cemetery, Sibley, with Andringa Funeral Home of Sibley in charge of arrangements.


Elray was born in Sibley, on February 2, 1933, the son of Fred J. and Anna "Klassen" Abels.


He attended Sibley schools.


He proudly served his country as a member of he United States Army during the Korean conflict.


Elray was married to Harriet J. DeWeerd of Sibley, on September 3, 1955 in Sibley.


Elray farmed in the Sibley, Ocheyedan, Adrian, Minn., and Rushmore, Minn. areas.


They divorced in 1989 but remained friends.


Survivors are his wife Harriet of Sioux Falls, S. Dak.; his children: Gary Abels of Brewster, Minn.; Marvin Abels and his wife, Marsha of Hartford, S. Dak.; Linda VanderHagen of Lincoln, Nebr.; Brian Abels of Lincoln, Nebr.; Lisa Scholz and her husband, Ron of Lincoln, Nebr.; Darla Ling and her husband, Dave of Renner, S. Dak.; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and sisters: Bernice Kimbale of Everett, Wash.; and Thelma Patrick of Sun City, Ariz.


Elray was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: Delbert and Robert "Bob" Abels.
