Mary Deloris was born on February 11, 1931 in Santa Fe, Oklahoma to Carl Franklin and Ruby Mae Sherman. She defeated a battle with cancer when she went to be with her Heavenly Father on November 9, 2013 at the age of 82. Mary went to school in Rock Creek and Santa Fe, Oklahoma through the 8th grade and then moved to Duncan, Oklahoma. She attended Duncan Middle School and Duncan High School. Mary married Samuel Elden Coulter in 1948 in Henrietta, Texas.
Mary and Sam lived the first 11 years of their marriage in Duncan, where she worked as a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. and where the first three of her five children were born. They then lived in Wichita, Kansas for nine years before moving to Hobbs, New Mexico, where she worked for J C Penny for 13 years while they raised their last two children. Sam passed away in April of 1981 and Mary moved back to Duncan in 1989 to be closer to her mother, in her final years. On January 9, 1998, Mary married Melvin Abell, in Duncan, where they have resided ever since.
Mary leaves those to cherish her loving memories her husband, Melvin Abell of Duncan, Oklahoma; her five children, Carol Jackson of Wichita, Kansas, Kenneth Coulter and his wife, Mari, of Savannah, Georgia, Sheila Sage and her husband , David, of Hutchinson, Kansas, Shawn Coulter and his wife, Celia, of El Paso, Texas and Robin Nunez and her husband, Ed, of Ft. Worth, Texas; her step-children Joan Chandler and her husband, Mike, and John Abell; 17 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and family members.
Mary was preceded in death by her loving parents, grandparents and a brother.
