Bernice L. Abbott, 85, of Old Mill Road died Tuesday morning at Crescent Manor Care Center in Bennington.

She was born in Montpelier, a daughter of John and Una Wrisley Lawrence,and was the valedictorian of her graduating class at St. Michael's High School in 1930.

After the death of her mother, she was raised by her uncle, Charles Paige, and his family.

On July 1, 1939, she married Actor T. Abbott in East Dorset. Mr. Abbott died in 1985.

Mrs. Abbott retired to Boothbay, Maine.

After her husband's death, she moved to East Arlington to be near her daughter. While here, she was active in the Senior Volunteer Retirement Program, the Bennington County Hospice and the Lupus Foundation, and worked at the Martha Canfield Library. She was a communicant of St. Margaret Mary's Catholic Church, where she was a member of the sodality group.

Surviving are one daughter, April Erwinski of East Arlington; one son, Actor Abbott of Venice, Fla.; one brother, John Lawrence of Tacoma, Wash.; two granddaughters, Sara Abbott and Katherine Erwinski; and one grandson, Michael Erwinski.

The liturgy and burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Margaret Mary's Church. The Rev. George Dupuis will be celebrant. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Boothbay Harbor, Maine. Father Royal Parent will officiate. Burial will be in the Abbott lot in Evergreen Cemetery, Boothbay. Arrangements are by Simmons, Harrington and Hall Funeral Home, Boothbay.
