SHREVEPORT, LA - A celebration of his life will be held on December 18, 2013, Wednesday, at 2:00 p.m. at Hill Crest Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at Hill Crest Memorial Park. The family will be receiving friends on December 18, 2013, Wednesday from noon until time of service.

John passed away on December 16, 2013, peacefully on a beautiful day surrounded by family and friends. He was born to John and Delaine Able on January 7, 1935 in Melville, LA.

He was a graduate of LSU and was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. He was also a member of the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine; Free and Accepted Master Mason; and a 32 degree Scottish Rite Mason. John also served his country in the United States Marine Corp and retired from Marion Laboratories. He was passionate about hunting, fishing, and enjoyed spending time with his family.

John was preceded in death by his father, John Wesley Able, Sr. and mother, Delaine Roan Able.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Carole Ann Able; daughter, April Ann Able; sons, John Wesley Able III and wife Nancy Able and Marc LeBlanc Able and wife Ashley Doughty Able and sister, June Regan of Baton Rouge, LA.

John is also survived by his grandchildren: Stephanie Parkman Bridges and husband Dave , Brooke Ann Parkman, Norman E. Parkman, Cassie Able, John Wesley Able IV, Cameron L. Able, Dianna Kathleen Able, John Travis Able, Lily Thomas and Amelia Thomas; great grandchildren, John Hunter Layfield, Abigale Dorsey, Richard Parkman, John Wesley Able V, and Lily Bridges.

Honoring John as pallbearers will be Brian Davidson, Clint Land, Cameron Able, John Able IV, Steve Randol, and Tommy Attaway. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Barry, Don Drake, Joe Kelly and Fred Packard.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Clarence Teagle and Dr. Stephen Kilpatrick for their compassionate care.
