OBITUARY Midland Daily News Feb 26 1971 "Edenville Man Killed: Car Rolls Over on US-10" with photo (shown here)
Jerome K. Abbe, Jr., 21, of West River Road, Edenville Township, was killed and his companion, James S. Waskevich, 21, of the same address, was injured when Waskevich lost control of the car on US-10 one-tenth of a mile east of the M-30 exit ramp near Sanford Thursday afternoon.
Abbe's death marked the first 1971 traffic fatality in Midland County. The city of Midland had previously recorded three traffic deaths to date this year.
Abbe was pronounced dead on arrival at Midland Hospital. Sheriff's officials, who are continuing an investigation of the crash, said it happened about 3:10 p.m. Waskevich was eastbound on the expressway and was passing a Consumers Power Company truck, deputies were advised. The car went into the median and rolled over onto the inside lane of the westbound roadway. Mr. Abbe and Waskevich recently moved to a trailer home in Edenville Township.
Mr. Abbe was born Nov. 24, 1949 in Midland, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jerome K. Abbe, Sr. of 3808 Wackerly Road. He attended Midland public schools. He was employed as a foreman for the Masonry Construction Company in Midland.
He is survived by his parents; one daughter Angela Marie, 3; and one son Keith James, 1; his former wife Deborah Inman Abbe of Sanford; three brothers, James, Daniel and Kevin Abbe, who all reside with their parents (one brother Dennis M. preceded him in death); four sisters, Susan, who lives with her parents, Mrs. Paul (Sandy) Rice of Roseville, Mrs. Jerry (Anita) Beebe of Averill, Mrs. Janice Bergeron of Midland; the grandparents, Mrs. Max Hale of Winn, Mrs. Alex Faber of Zephyr Hills, Fla. and Charles Abbe of Averill.

Funeral services for Jerome Keith Abbe, Jr., 21, of 3808 West Wackerly, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday from the Bradley Funeral Home. Rev. Donald Loose will officiate, and burial will be in Midland Cemetery.
Mr. Abbe died Thursday afternoon from injuries received in a car rollover on US-10, one-tenth of a mile east of the M-30 exit ramp near Sanford.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 3 p.m. today.

1966 MIDLAND CHEMIC YEARBOOK lists him as not pictured his sophomore year. He is not included in 1967 or 1968.

INFORMATION FROM ACQUAINTANCE Diane Bonham says Jerry Abbe was a passenger in a vehicle driven by Jim Waskevich, and was killed when they got in a car accident. Jim always felt remorseful about the death of his friend, and died later in 1988 from an overdose.
