Bertha Lanning, 79, New Rockford, ND, formerly Goodrich, ND, and La Jolla, CA, died peacefully Wednesday, January 08, 2014, at Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd.

Bertha Vera Adam was born January 9, 1934, at Goodrich, the daughter of Fred and Lena (Schwab) Adam. She grew up and received her education from Goodrich High School.

After graduating, Bertha moved to Fargo, ND, and met her future husband. They moved to the San Diego area in California and on June 2, 1957, Bertha was united in marriage to Leslie Allan Lanning in San Diego, CA. They were fully committed and cherished one another.

Following their marriage, they lived in La Jolla, CA. Bertha's many talents included cooking, sewing, piano and home renovations. Bertha worked at FedMart Department Store for many years before retiring. Bertha was very active with her husband in the Bromeliad Club where she and Leslie won many prestigious awards for their beautiful plants. Bertha enjoyed nature at all times.

In August of 2010, Bertha and Leslie moved to New Rockford and entered Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd. Bertha was an extremely devoted wife. Bertha will be deeply missed by her family and friends. She loved life and lived it with robust enthusiasm and great integrity.

Bertha is survived by her two brothers, Daniel and Emanuel Adam; sister, Margaret Hintz and many nieces and nephews who loved her very much.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Leslie Allan Lanning in 2011; parents, Fred and Lena (Schwab) Adam; brother, Alfred Adam; three step-sisters, Ethel Mertz, Pearl Bloem and Lillie Kebler.
