Ruth (Abbott) Howells, 100, of Pennknoll Village, formerly of Washington St., Dudley, PA. went to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 26, 2013 at Pennknoll Village.

She was born on September 27, 1913 in Dudley, PA. the daughter of the late Bruce and Flora (Sweet) Abbott of Dudley.

She was united in marriage to Thomas Howells on October 3, 1942 at the Mount Washington United Methodist Church in Pittsburgh, by Rev. Douglas . Mr. Howells preceded her in death in July of 1987.

She is survived by two sisters, Martha Jane Abbott of Dudley and Marry (Abbott) Moyle of North Carolina. A number of nieces and nephews survive; Dan Abbott and family of Baltimore, MD, Rev. Sandy Moyle of Florida, Susan Moyle and family, Lori Moyle and family, Bruce Moyle and family all of North Carolina, Steve Coulter and Sara Kray and families of Hershey, PA, and Mark, Wanda, Sarah, Nicholas, and Braden Miller of Saxton.

She graduated from Dudley High School with honors at the age of 16. She then enrolled in the Nelson Academy of Beauty Culture in Huntingdon. She then owned and operated a beauty business in Dudley for over 20 years. She then went back to school and went to work for Attorney Ron Keller as a paralegal. She worked out of the Bedford, Huntingdon, and Fulton County Offices on domestic and pension cases until the law office closed. She then transferred to child development and worked in Huntingdon, Petersburg, and Orbisonia schools and later years worked for the Lutheran Social Services in Bedford. She retired from the Cessna Christian School when it closed in 1986.
Ruth was taken in as a member of the United Methodist Church at the age of 16 and served in every office as well as a Sunday School Teacher for over 50 years. She was a lay speaker for 12 years and a delegate to the general conference of the United Methodist Church. She was a life member of the church choir. Singing church music was her favorite pastime.

She was a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star, White Shrine, and The Business and Professional Club, all of Akron OH.

Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, December 29, 2013 at the Dudley United Methodist Church at 3 PM with Pastors, Patty Wise and Suzanne Detterline Officiating.

Friends will be received from 1-3 PM at the church. Interment will be in the Dudley Methodist Cemetery, Dudley, PA.
