Annie was born, and later married, at the home her father built in Lynchburg known as "Brookfield." Annie's second cousin was Governor John Buchanan Floyd of VA, son of Gov John Floyd. For a short time she attended school from the executive mansion in Richmond. In 1848 at the age of 16, she witnessed the laying of the foundation for the Washington Monument in Capitol Square.

Annie married Col. Henry Ward Adams in 1853, and together they raised 7 children, all named after family members. She was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church for many years.

Annie died on Easter, whereas her husband Henry died on Christmas Day. The family story is that each died on what they considered the holiest day of the year.
